Becoming a bathroom fitter, what is needed?

Are you looking for your first job? Or your next job? Maybe you're simply interested in how much a bathroom fitter charges per day. Whatever your question may be, we will do our best to answer it in this guide to work as a bathroom fitter.

What qualifications do you need to become a bathroom fitter in the United Kingdom?

There are a few different journeys you can select from when it comes to this particular job. Here are the 3 paths we know of, and see most commonly.

Going To College

Many colleges offer courses for you to pursue this professional aspiration. There are also different courses to choose from if this is the path you're interested in pursuing. Amongst these courses, we found carpentry and joinery, fitted interiors, and plumbing.

Be an Apprentice

Some of our workers followed this route, they have turned into amazing bathroom fitters! It is fairly easy, and for someone who likes to be on the tools, it's definitely something you'll enjoy. This means signing yourself up for a minimum of 30 hours per week, these hours include on-site work as well as theory. There are hundreds of companies that take on apprentices, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one for yourself. Also, you are not obliged to start with a bathroom fitting straight from the start, you could be a part of a company that does plumbing, carpentry, joinery, and more… When you complete this apprenticeship, you would be able to specialise in bathroom fitting. We often find great employees who have followed this particular path, as it is not always straightforward to find a company in your desired line of work, at a particular time.

We also like this option because you will be paid for the hours you work, which is a bonus at the very least, and an absolute necessity for some individuals.

Apply for a Job

If you have experience in construction or any sort of labour, some companies might be willing to take you on without any qualifications or particular training. It can be a real bonus to have a newbie on the team in some cases. Although you won't be able to expect high pay, you are essentially getting paid to learn, which is amazing! Once you have mastered the craft, your salary and/or hourly rate will be able to see a significant rise.

Bathroom Fitter Salary in the UK

How much does a bathroom fitter charge daily?

There is no daily rate this is fixed, as this depends on the job that's being done. In general, one day can vary from £100 to £400 before VAT. To give you some insight, if your only job of the day is removing a toilet and fitting a new toilet, you shouldn't expect to charge more than £100 to £175 (excluding materials). However, if you are removing a bath and fitting a new one, you will most likely be competitive in your market if you charge somewhere near £400. That being said, the toilet job would not take anywhere near as long (most likely 4–5 hours) as the bath (approximately 8 hours). Therefore, this also depends on how busy the company you work for is, or how busy you are as a sole trader.

What does a bathroom fitter charge hourly?

The average hourly rate is between £17 and £18. This can vary depending on experience, reputation, speed, costs, and more variables. As a beginner, you will probably be looking at a few pounds less, whereas seasoned workers can charge upwards from £20 per hour.

How much can a bathroom fitter earn in a year?

With the information we just gave you, most individuals in this field will make anywhere from £28,000 to £48,000 per year. Of course, there will be exceptions, if you run a bathroom fitting business and have 10 employees, you might make much more than the higher end. Conversely, as a beginner with poor experience, you could make a bit less than the minimum we mentioned.

What do we earn monthly?

If we take into consideration all the variables, a monthly wage would normally be between £2,000-£5,000 per month.

This brings us to the end of this guide to becoming a bathroom fitter, this information will help you to understand the “how?” and the “why?”. Of course, there should also be a special mention for the passion a lot of us get from working in this line. It isn't all about what you will earn, enjoying your job is just as important.
