Bathroom Fitting Bristol

What are the pros and cons of installing double sink vanities in your bathroom?

Let us walk you through our argumentative page for double sink vanities, what makes them worth it, what makes them worthless?

Sharing

Less Messy

Less Space

More Work, More Money

Sharing can be Essential

One of the main advantages, if not the main one, is being able to share the bathroom comfortably. If you have experienced a single sink vanity, and a double sink vanity while sharing a bathroom, you will understand how much of a difference this can make.

Let's be honest, most people like their space. Even if you and your partner get on really well, or your son and daughter do, having their own sink will make life easier, more pleasant, and cleaner! That's the next point on our list of pros, so let's take a look.

Less Mess for a Happier Household

It will be considerably easier to keep your bathroom tidy if you aren't sharing a single sink. Each person gets their own drawers, sink, side of the mirror, etc. This also means that these two people can use the washroom at the same time, which wouldn't be possible with a single vanity unit. Studies show that keeping your house tidy, especially the bathroom, can make a real difference to your mood, mindset, and overall happiness. Of course, a double basin isn't going to do that by itself, but it will most certainly help out – it's a step in the right direction.

What are the downsides?

Somehow, you will end with Less Space

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but when you choose double sink vanities, you will have less space on the counter. Unless you go for a design similar to the one in this photograph of our recent work, you will likely have more space on a single sink vanity. This is simply because you sacrifice the remaining space on the counter to add in the second basin. It also means that an effort will need to be made to keep all belongings tucked away in drawers, cabinets, etc. This leaves you with one question: Would you rather lose some counter space, or lose a whole sink?

One more Sink, lots more Plumbing

This makes perfect sense, and it is something that needs accounting for. If you desire an extra sink vanity, it will involve more plumbing, so higher costs, and a bit more time before the job comes to an end.

It's simply the price we must pay for these luxury additions in our washrooms. Maybe you really like the idea of underfloor heating, well that's the same scenario: more money and more time. Therefore, you should work out how much you value these extra touches, before you go forward with them.
